Dallas Receiving Corps Getting Crowded, Crayton Wants Out

on Apr.30, 2010, under NFL News

Now that the Mavericks’ NBA championship odds are out of the picture, Dallas fans can focus on the Cowboys, and of course, the team doesn’t have to be in the season to have controversy swirling around the camp.  Here is the latest news to come out of “Jerry’s World”.

Patrick Crayton, as well as Sam Hurd, have asked for a trade out of Big D as the Cowboys used their first-round pick to take a chance on Dez Bryant, the talented but troubled receiver out of Oklahoma State who missed most of the 2009 season due to an NCAA suspension for his affiliation with Deion Sanders, the former Cowboys great.  Crayton had 37 catches for 622 yards and five touchdowns, and his 16.8 yards-per-catch led the team, but he saw his time go down with the emergence of Miles Austin.  Hurd had seven catches for 121 yards, so he won’t be much of a factor in trade talks, but Crayton has some value for teams looking for a speedy receiver who can make big plays.

Crayton figures to fall down the pecking order to fourth behind Austin, Roy Williams and Bryant, who many are comparing to another Dallas legend, Michael Irvin.  The Cowboys invested far too much in Williams to trade him away, and Austin is the No.1 receiver, not to mention, tight end Jason Witten is still Tony Romo’s safety outlet.  Crayton is the odd man out, and if he doesn’t want to be there, the Cowboys would do well to flip him for a player (or two) that can boost their Northbet sports betting odds.
